MDEV 2025: A Retrospective

Full stop, our studio is based out of Virginia, so going to the Midwest Game Development convention might seem a bit weird. And in reality, it is a bit weird. The Virginia is not the midwest, and yet, nearly $1,000 was spent on this trip where we didn’t have a game demo to showcase or anything like that.

So what was the point?

We’ve grown our network so much this past weekend (My network went from 250 connections on LinkedIn to over 300). We’ve met so many amazing people, developers, and other indie studios who want everyone in the building (and the development community at large) to succeed, not just themselves.

Not only that, but the talks that were given were hugely helpful and informative, in narrative, in business, in marketing, and in the talks we’ve been having about the decision of whether or not we should be looking for a publisher.

There are so many things that we’ve learned here, and I can’t wait to move forward in our development with our projects. The people we met have been so supportive, even with our typically ‘too ambitious’ first project like Dawn’s End.

Onward to bigger and better progress in the future!
